Yarn Along

Today I'm joining in with Ginny over at Small Things for her Yarn Along. You can read a little more about what exactly a Yarn Along is here.

I'm working right now on a sooper secrit test knit so I can't show you a picture yet but I can show you the start of my No More Snow! mittens.

This is a great pattern on Ravelry by YellowCosmo. Kathy (kally on Rav) gifted this pattern to me on November 14, 2011 "just because"... isn't that sweet?! I figured I had better knit them!

And what am I reading to go along with these knits, you ask? Well I'm actually in between books right now. I'm waiting for a book I ordered from Chapters called Paddle: a Long Way Around Ireland. In the meantime I'm revisiting Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach.

Happy Wednesday to you.

FO - Broken

I finished my Broken Seed Stitch socks on the weekend. They turned out just like I wanted... bright and fun. It's like a wee bit of sunshine on my feet.

I need the sunshine I'm telling you, this morning it was -19C. Really? I am never going to get the kayak out at this rate...

hats and socks

I finished a wip on the weekend. The pattern is called Wasatch Backcountry Hat by Christy Wall and it's a free pattern on Ravelry. I wanted to use up some bits of Cascade 220 Superwash and this is a great pattern for that...

The pattern says to knit for 4.5 inches before starting the decreases but I knit to 6 inches. If I knit this again I'd knit another half inch at least as it just barely covered B's ears.

As much as I like the finished result, knitting one by one rib sucks the life right out of me which is why I started this hat on November 9th, 2012 and didn't finish it until yesterday afternoon. Sadly this won't be my go-to hat pattern for the boys... but I still like it.

I also started a pair of socks yesterday. Well actually I restarted. I was knitting them on 2.75mm dpns but the fabric was coming out too big. So I frogged and restarted, this time I'm doing the cuff, heel and toes with the 2.75mm and the rest of the sock with 2mm dpns.

The pattern is called Broken Seed Stitch Socks by handepande. It's another free pattern on Ravelry. I'm using some yarn I got at Rhinebeck called Bittersweet Glamour Gams in the Princess Buttercup colourway. It has cashmere in it! It's lovely! I'm also using a skein of gift yarn that Pat (plynn on Ravelry) sent me for the Ravelenic Games. It's called Serenity Sock in the Tanzanite colourway.

Together these colours are loud. Really loud. I love them! I'll try to get a daytime photo next time and you'll see what I mean.

Must Stash Podcast

I discovered a new podcast a few weeks ago. Hosted by Freeflower (Stacie) and SupaSteph (Steph), the Must Stash Podcast is cute, upbeat and fun to watch. They also have a group on Ravelry. These ladies have only a few episodes up but if you have a few moments check them out. I totally enjoy them!

I listen to and watch lots of podcasts. Here's a list of my favorites:
Knitmore Girls
Knitting Knirvana
Round the Twist
Yarngasm
The Knit Girllls
Stash and Burn
Knitting Pipeline

How about you? Got a favorite podcast?

Scrappy Socks

Last month I found myself trying to shove another ball of sock yarn into a big Ziploc bag and it just wouldn't go. The bag was stuffed. I had too many leftover bits of sock yarn. What's a girl to do?

Knit scrappy socks...

I used Susan B Anderson's pattern How I Make My Socks (I call them HIMMS for short). It's any easy, fast pattern and they literally flew off my needles.

I used up lots of the scraps but you know I could probably make a few more pairs yet...
